Most thermostats give the fan two settings, On and Auto. They sound alike but work in different ways.
Auto
The fan runs only while the system is cooling or heating. It uses the least electricity and the fan motor lasts longer. In a humid climate it also lets water drain off the indoor coil between cycles instead of blowing it back into the house. For most Panama City homes, Auto is the better everyday choice.
On
The fan runs all the time, cooling or not. The air keeps passing through the filter, which can help people with allergies or asthma, and temperatures stay more even from room to room.
The trade-offs: higher power bills, more wear on the fan motor, filters that clog faster, and moisture from the coil getting pushed back into the air, which makes the house feel clammy.
A middle way
Variable-speed blowers and smart thermostats can run the fan slowly or on a schedule, which gives you cleaner air without most of the downsides. Ask us if your system can do it.
